btw, the powerbook 14" superdrive version sells for the apple retail price of the non-superdrive version if you get it through a university computer store. For a discount of $300,you also get the 3 year Applecare plan included. The price works out to $1499. BTW, they extend the same benefits for alumni.See this http://www.cmu.edu/computing/store/apple.html I would have volunteered to carry one for you if i hadn't succumbed to the allure of the 15" model myself.
Thanks for pointing that out; I had no idea alumni were eligible too. You know, I agree they are not the same thing and all that, but when Dell offers a laptop with a better configuration (more RAM, more HDD, including a super drive and all that) for $750, it feels sinful to buy an Apple.
i used to feel the same, until i got the powerbook. There is no comparison. Only a thinkpad comes remotely close, but you end up paying the same once you configure a thinkpad to reasonable specifications.
Someday, i will have to get to the bottom of Srini's passion for Dell products. Let's meet next week over a bottle of sake. (If you have forgotten/emptied the bottle, do let me know. I shall replenish supplies during my return, courtesy duty free)
